Halberton in the First World War

 

The 11th November 2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, ending the First World War. As part of ‘Halberton Remembers’, a series of events held in Halberton to mark the centenary, the History Group staged an exhibition at the village hall. ‘Halberton in the First World War’ was visited by over 150 people in two days. Our exhibition told the stories of the serving men from Halberton and how the war affected the village; the food shortages, the price increases, villagers rallying to support the “Halberton lads” at the front line and, finally, how peace was announced and celebrated.

We are posting onto this website an album of photographs of the events, pdf copies of material used for our display boards and summaries of our research (transcripts of press articles etc).
